Free Geology Training Day with West Yorkshire Geology Trust

Find out more about the rocks beneath the Haworth area and enjoy a guided walk on Penistone Hill using a new booklet and walking route developed by the West Yorkshire Geology Trust.

The Old School Room can be found on the lane between the Brontë Parsonage and
Haworth Parish Church. Note that parking in the car park next to The Old School
Room costs £4.00 per day. The car park is signposted Brontë Parsonage Museum
from the road from Haworth to Stanbury.

Programme for the day:

10.00 Arrival and refreshments
10.15 Introduction to the Watersheds Landscape Project
10.45 Talk by William Varley of the West Yorkshire Geology Trust,
‘Rocks and Landscapes of the Haworth District’, followed by a short break.
11.45 Talk by Alison Tymon of the West Yorkshire Geology Trust,
‘Geoconservation: case studies in the West Yorkshire area’
12.30 A free buffet lunch will be provided and will include vegetarian options
1.15 Walk from the Old School Room to follow the new rocks and landscapes trail over
Penistone Hill. Distance about 4 km on gentle tracks and footpaths. Be prepared for
all weathers, with good footwear and waterproofs.
3.30 Return to The Old School Room for evaluation and resources to take away.
