Inspired by Landscape I

Inspired by Landscape I opened at Cartwright Hall on June 18th 2011. The exhibition provided the opportunity to celebrate, share and reflect on journeys by visual artist Sally Barker and poet Andrew McMillan.

Sally exhibited a series of large format photographs, offering an intriguing angle on the ongoing relationship between nature, ourselves and the landscape. Sally makes small-scale sculpture, using materials gathered from the moors, and photographs them back in the landscape, creating a new response to the South Pennine uplands.

Both the process and the product from Andrew's residency was on display. Completed poems were displayed alongside the early drafts, marginalia and notes from which they were created.

During the exhibition family activities and workshops were held to help visitors to explore the local landscape. Workshops included creating personal poems, building miniature landscapes and discovering the fun of geo-caching in Lister Park and beyond.
