Community Heritage Update

The quiet, windswept moors have been a focus of activity over thousands of years - once inhabited and more recently their mineral wealth exploited. The Watershed Landscape Project aims to raise awareness of the moorlands rich heritage and to promote a greater understanding of the important role the moorland played to the surrounding settlements.

The project is in its final year and work is now focused on ensuring a lasting legacy of appreciation, understanding, and awareness of the heritage of the upland zone.

NEWS We have appointed a new Community Archaeologist. Louise Brown has a background in fieldwork, post-excavation and research, and currently holds an Honorary Research Fellowship in Archaeology at the University of Bradford.

Louise has long been involved in training and community involvement in archaeological projects, both on-site and during post-excavation. She was involved with the excavation and the post-excavation of a multiperiod settlement mound at Old Scatness in Shetland from 1995-2006. The site spans a wide time period, from the Neolithic through to the early part of the 20th century. The project was managed by Shetland Amenity Trust, with the excavations directed by a team from the University of Bradford.
